Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes do you offer?

The standard blocks I buy are 10x7in and 10x14in.

However if you have a specific size in mind I’m happy to cut paper to any size up to A3.

How long does a portrait take?

I have a waitlist, so when I get to your order in the queue can depend on my workload. This can be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. I get busier in the lead up to Christmas. However, once I begin work on your portrait it can be completed in a few days to a week depending on the complexity.

Can I use multiple photos?

Yes! As many as you like, though the fewer you use the better the result. This is because in a single photo the lighting remains the same.

Can I change/add things?

Yes! I can change clothing, facial expressions, colours. I can make it sunny or add in favourite toys or keepsakes. Get in touch to find out what’s possible.

Do you offer framing?

Currently I don’t. I’d recommend floating frames, or frames with mounts, but best of all, professional framing for that extra special finish.

Can I see it before it’s finished?

Yes, I will send a sketch for approval before I begin to paint where you can make any changes. Once the paint is down it’s much harder to alter things so let me know anything you’re not happy with at this point.

Are you Eco Friendly?

I only use packaging that is eco friendly, including the stickers and biodegradable cellulose bags that my paintings are packed in. I do my best to reuse any packaging that comes from my wholesalers and my bauble ribbons are made with hand dyed silk cut offs. I use synthetic brushes rather than sable and I avoid watercolour paints that use any harmful pigments, for example cadmium.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

All of my paintings come tied with eco-friendly twine and packaged beautifully. However if you’d like to add a gift message and leave out the price, please let me know via email. pencilandgrace@outlook.com

Can I get prints?

Yes! You can add on as many prints as you would like to your order from the original watercolour portrait. Just let me know what you’d like at pencilandgrace@outlook.com

What’s the maximum number of subjects?

The sky’s the limit!

How do I look after my painting?

2. Avoid masking tape or sellotape
It will rapidly stain the paper and cause irreparable damage. Any good art shop will stock PH-neutral, waterbased adhesive and archival tape.

3. Choose where you hang your work carefully
Avoid areas of humidity (such as bathrooms and kitchens) and places that will experience extremes of hot and cold, such as just above radiators, or on the inside of exterior walls. Watercolours will fade if hung in direct sunlight too. Modern pigments are far less fugitive nowadays, but careful hanging is still vital to their longevity.
